The Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America is dedicated to defending the civil liberties and legal rights of Muslims, in American courtrooms, boardrooms, and by litigating constitutional issues that are important to the Muslim community.  As part of its mission, CLCMA empowers the Muslim community by providing a range of non-litigation pro bono legal services and advice for Muslim faith-based nonprofits serving their community by offering quality counseling, legal advice, and representation. We promote public awareness and understanding of business and nonprofit laws requirements by disseminating pertinent information to Muslim owned and operated businesses and community groups, and by identifying current and future legal issues.  CLCMA works with Muslim-affiliated nonprofits and organizations at all stages, from start-up through expansion.

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, detail-oriented and energetic Nonprofit Staff Attorney to join our collegial and fast-paced organization at this critical time when the constitutional rights of Muslims in America are under serious threat. The position is a full-time position, based in Dallas, Texas.

The Nonprofit Staff Attorney will serve as an integral member of our team and assist in all phases of corporate and nonprofit law practice, including by providing consultation, training, and other resources to CLCMA’s clients on a wide variety of legal, governance and management topics. This assistance enables CLCMA’s clients to operate legally sound and well-governed organizations, thereby enhancing their ability to effect positive change in their communities.

Under the direction of the Senior Corporate Counsel, the Nonprofit Staff Attorney will assist in:

  • Researching, writing and editing legal memoranda, e-bulletins, website content and potentially more in-depth publications.
  • Extensive drafting of client assessments reports.
  • Advising, and assisting the Senior Corporate Counsel and other attorneys on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters, such as:
    • Internal Revenue Code requirements for tax-exempt organizations
    • Nonprofit corporate law and corporate governance
    • Religious organizations nonprofit law
    • Employment law
    • Foreign relief transactions and charitable solicitations
    • Administrative law
  • Preparing materials for, coordinating and, presenting training seminars on legal issues for client organizations, including at CLCMA quarterly and annual legal conferences, webinars, and other training workshops throughout the country.
  • Drafting and editing general corporate legal documents, including bylaws, committee charters, and articles of incorporation, policies and procedures manuals.
  • Conducting community outreach and education presentations.
  • Managing client data collection, analyses, preparation and coordination of responses for compliance audits, corrective action plans and quality/performance improvement plans;
  • Monitoring and preparing updates on federal and/or state compliance policies and regulations.
  • Fostering teamwork and planning to achieve desired results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will excel at operating in a diverse and fluid environment, and will be critical in assisting the Senior Corporate Counsel to operate optimally, build consensus and drive results.

  • A J.D. from a U.S. accredited institution.
  • Current bar membership in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
  • Excellent research, writing, analytical, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • At least 5 – 7 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, with knowledge of tax-exempt organization law, corporate law, governance law, employment law, and administrative law preferred.
  • Previous experience with religious organizations non-profit law is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate legal concepts effectively into lay terms.
  • Proven capability to take initiative, work independently, set priorities and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Experience in supervising legal staff or interns.
  • Commitment to CLCMA’s mission and client community.
  • Some travel required.
  • Relocation assistance provided.

Details

  • The position will be located in our Richardson (Dallas), Texas office.
  • Salary is DOE and is commensurate with other non-profit organizations.
  • Employee health plan, 401K, and competitive vacation, holiday, and sick leave policies.
  • We will pay a portion of relocation costs for an appropriate candidate.

Job Description:

We are looking for a professional, organized Receptionist to join our fast-paced, collegial organization, at this critical time when the constitutional rights of Muslims in America are under serious threat. The Receptionist will be the first person that our clients, funders, and guests will meet, so we are looking for a candidate who can carry out this role with professionalism and warmth.

Under the direction of the Office Manager, the Receptionist will:

  • Answer the phones, transfer calls, and take messages.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Greet and receive guests to the office.
  • Maintain the front desk calendar.
  • Assist attorneys and paralegals with case intakes as required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2 years of work experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • The ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
